What’s on your summer reading list?

I find people’s perceptions of outwardly successful people to be really interesting.  It’s as if they were born at age 50 with a seven figure income and a net worth approaching a billion dollars, and we actually think how lucky they were.  I have discovered there are exceptions and that highly successful people work extremely hard. They have worked through failures and heartbreaks throughout their lives with an interesting twist — they never see themselves as victims.  They never quit; they simply adjust.  Books can help us see and understand, and provide encouragement for us when we truly comprehend what others have experienced.

With the above in mind, here are two great reads:

Shoe Dog – A memoir by the creator of Nike, Phil Knight.  Fresh out of business school, he borrowed $50 from his dad to launch his business.  Find out why Phil Knight was and still is a disruptive thinker and how it is key to his past, current, and future success.

American Icon by Bryce G. Hoffman discusses how Alan Mulally turned around two amazing businesses, Boeing and Ford.  The main topic is the blow-by-blow account of saving the Ford Motor Company.  Also, a great read if you want evidence that servant leaders can win!

Human relations thought: Listen with your eyes and mind.  It’s why I love to read.

Send me a note and let me know what you’re reading.

Onward!
